If you’ve owned an escooter, we’ve all been there. A tire puncture, or a battery issue is enough to ruin one’s day. Most issues, however, if addressed early, can be fixed and not become bigger issuer. The issue, despite many issues being common, is that escooter riders are not always able to identify these issues. In this article, we’ll identify 3 common escooter issues, how to identify them, a cost of the fix and where you can get them fixed.

Tire Puncture

A tire puncture is one of the most common issues encountered by escooter owners. A tire puncture is precisely what it sounds like, a hole created by a foreign object entering the tire. This is usually only an issue for escooters with tube tires. Some escooters have tubeless tires immune to punctures as they have a continuous rubber structure, however most escooters come with tube tires. If you have a tire puncture, the tire will feel flat, and the scooter may not be able to accelerate to full speed. The first thing you should do when a tire puncture is identified is to stop riding. It may be tempting to keep riding, especially if you’re on the road, however this can be detrimental to the wheel's structure. If the structure of the wheel is damaged it can affect many other things, such as the motor, brake pads and electrical components. The good news, is that a flat tire is an easy and quick fix for escooter shops. Tires aren’t very expensive unless you have specialty tires, such as offroad tires or less common tire sizes. Sometimes, the tire can be fine, and the tube is the only component needing replacing. A full tire and tube replacement is usually around 80-100 aed. If just the tube is punctured, a tube is even cheaper, around 40-60 aed. The repair is also quick, taking only 20-30 minutes. Any scooter repair shop should be able to replace a tire, and have tires in stock.

Brake Issues

Brake issues are another common issue for escooter riders. Escooters usually have three different types of brakes, electric, drum, and caliper brakes. Since there are different kinds of brakes in escooters, outlining all the different issues and fixes would be long, however, issues with brakes can be outlined by three common symptoms. These are sounds while braking, inconsistent, and weaker braking power. If your escooter is experiencing any of these issues, the best thing to do is to stop riding. Brake issues can become serious very quickly and can lead to injury for the rider. Fixing brakes however, is a pretty straightforward process. Most shops can fix brake issues, however it can take quite a long time. If your escooter has electric or drum brakes, the issues stem from broken, worn down, or malaligned components. This is just easy fix, as older components are just replaced, or realigned. A fix for these kind of brakes will be in the range of 60 aed for a component replacement. If you have electric brakes, the issue with the escooter could be more serious, as problems with electric brakes stem from the scooter’s electrical components. Electrical brake malfunctions can cost a lot more, over 100 aed, depending on which electrical component is broken.

Battery Issues

Battery issues is another common problem with many escooters. These issues are more common in cheaper escooters, as their batteries aren’t always of the highest quality. You will know a battery problem when you see it. The escooter tends not to turn on as if it is permanently dead, and won’t charge. Battery issues can also present themselves in other ways, such as bad acceleration, low range and speed issues. A battery fix is a longer and more expensive process to fix. Battery issues almost always stem from issues in electrical components of the scooter. These can’t always be fixed, and the most common solution to battery issues is a replacement. Most escooter stores will be able to fix batteries. It can be a multi day process, as shops do not carry every battery, so many will have to order batteries in to fix them if it needs a replacement. Most shops will carry batteries for more common escooter brands like Ninebot or Xiaomi scooters. These fixes will be expensive, as most escooter service centers will charge upwards of 400 aed for a battery replacement. If it can be fixed without a battery replacement, it can still be expensive, costing around 100 aed for a battery fix.

These are the 3 most common issues with electric scooters. Other issues do exist, however they can be less common. When something feels off with your escooter it is important to diagnose the issue and get it into a shop as soon as possible to lessen the chance of the problem getting worse, or more importantly, lessen the chance of injury to a rider. There are plenty of escooter service centers around Dubai that can help with and escooter issues. Here at ScootUp, we can fix almost any kind of issue with any escooter. Stay safe and happy riding!
