The Segway SuperScooter GT2 emerges as a premium electric scooter, carrying a steep price of 12,900 AED, with an introductory offer of 11,900 AED on Indiegogo. Courtesy of Segway, I received a unit for review purposes. My assistant Max conducted extensive tests, and I also had the chance to experience it firsthand. Despite its impressive array of features and performance capabilities, the critical question remains: does its value justify the 12,900 AED investment?

Performance Insights and Technical Specifications

Claimed by Segway, the GT2 boasts a range of 90 km (56 miles) under ideal conditions, likely in an economy setting. However, Max's aggressive test riding yielded a significantly lower range of 43 km (27 miles) with only 3% battery life remaining. This discrepancy highlights the variability of electric vehicle ranges based on numerous factors. During the test, Max, weighing 80 kg (176 lb), rode in cool weather at 13°C (55°F), pushing the GT2 to its limits with an average speed of 49 km/h (30 mph) in Sport mode.

The scooter's top speed hit 69 km/h (43 mph), aligning with Segway's claims. The GT2's acceleration felt exceptionally strong, capable of reaching 30 mph in just 3.9 seconds.

Technical Details

The GT2's battery is a powerhouse at 1512 Wh, ensuring longevity and sustained high performance. Segway's innovative HeatFlux Multi-layer Cooling System maintains optimal battery temperature. Charging is facilitated by two 2A chargers, requiring approximately 8 hours for a full recharge.

Its wheels are notably large, measuring 11 by 3.6 inches, enhancing comfort, traction, and safety. The inclusion of tire-liners minimizes puncture risks. Each wheel is powered by a 1500W motor, peaking at 3000W, supported by an electronic traction control system for enhanced safety.

Suspension and braking are top-notch, with adjustable hydraulic dampers and dual piston hydraulic brakes equipped with regen capabilities for energy recovery.

The GT2 features various riding modes, accessible through a shift knob, catering to different preferences and conditions. The handlebar design is ergonomic, though it lacks space for additional accessories.

Visibility and rider information are boosted by a PMOLED display, clear even in sunlight, and the scooter is well-lit for safety during night rides.

Portability and Additional Features

Weighing 53 kg (117 lb), the GT2's portability is limited, posing challenges for regular transport or navigation through stairs. It also includes advanced features like Sentinel mode for security, walk assist, cruise control, and NFC unlock.

Design and Warranty

The GT2 stands out with its distinctive design and robust build quality, using aircraft-grade aluminum capable of supporting up to 150kg (330 pounds). The warranty varies, covering hub motors for 2 years, the battery for 1 year, and consumables for 30 days. Segway offers extensive support through authorized dealers and service centers.

Conclusion

While it may not boast the largest battery or fastest speed in its class, the GT2 offers a refined riding experience with a focus on safety, comfort, and design. If you're considering investing 12,900 AED in an electric scooter, the GT2 presents a compelling package worth evaluating for its balanced performance and superior design features.
