Dubai, known for its shiny buildings, expat community, and overall glam the city has. Dubai is also known for one big thing many people gloss over - HEAT! We all know Dubai summers are scorching hot; we all know how it affects people; however, the Dubai heat can also affect your escooter. The extreme heat and overall climate of Dubai can affect components of your escooter and put you in the escooter service shop more often than you’d like. Here are 5 tips to keep your escooter cool, working, and out of the escooter repair shop in Dubai’s hot summer.

Battery Care

The battery is the most important part of the escooter. Keeping it in working order is extremely important for an escooter. Even normally, mistreatment of the battery can lead to overheating, which in turn affects the battery’s functionality. In Dubai’s hot summers, the risk for overheating is even higher. To prevent overheating, follow your escooter’s load limit and prevent overcharging. When the escooter is over the weight limit, the motor and, in turn the battery is forced to work harder. This causes overheating in the motor and more importantly, the battery. In the winter, the battery would have an easier time cooling off; however, in the summer it cannot cool off properly. A hot battery affects performance and can even lead to the battery dying. Keeping your escooter in a cool dry place is also very important. The oppressive heat alone can cause overheating. Dubai’s summers are also very dusty, which can rust and negatively affect joints and screws in your escooter; however, we will go into more depth on this later. In the escooter repair shop, a battery replacement is one of the most expensive fixes, so avoid overheating for the best functionality.

Cleaning Your Escooter

Dubai’s summers tend to be smoggy and dusty. Like people, the smog and dust aren’t so good for your escooter. In the summer, dust and other small particles can build up more easily with the heat. This is an issue, especially in Dubai, as Dubai is in a desert, dust in the air is extremely common. Dust buildup can occur near moving parts and electronics, corroding them faster and breaking down electronic components. If you notice your escooter becoming especially dusty, clean it out and store it somewhere less dusty. Bringing your escooter to an escooter service center to get it cleaned is also a good idea. If the parts on the escooter corrode, the fix will be more expensive. Corroded electronic components are expensive to fix, as these cannot be repaired; they must be replaced. Rusted moving parts can be dangerous, as they can easily break during a ride. Keeping your escooter indoors is the best defense against dust buildup.

Tires and Brakes

Tires and brakes are other components the summer heat affects. Tire pressure can be adversely affected. If your tires were last pumped in the winter, it's always good to check your tire pressure, as the hot air expands the air in the tire. Increased tire pressure can lead to punctures and popped tubes. It's not a difficult fix, but a flat tire is one of the most annoying problems, as you’ll be stranded. Brakes can also be adversely affected by the summer heat. If you have padded brakes, the heat can wear down brake pads even faster as the brakes get hotter. If you have mechanical or electric brakes, the heat can cause some components to become loose, decreasing the brakes' effectiveness.

The Dubai summer heat isn’t just a problem for people; it can also be an issue for escooters and electronics alike. An escooter service shop is never a good place to be. As good as they can fix escooters, you never want your escooter to break. In light of the especially hot Dubai climate, watch the parts outlined in the article. If some of these parts break or corrode due to the heat and dust, it won’t only take a toll on your wallet, it can be dangerous for the rider. If something is to happen to your escooter, at ScootUp, we don’t just sell scooters, we also have a mechanics shop that has fixed any escooter issue you can think of. Stay safe, and happy riding!
